Why good bicycle accessories are especially important in 2026

Warum gutes Fahrradzubehör 2026 besonders wichtig ist

Sabine |

Does it really depend on the year which bicycle accessories you should buy? Yes and no. Actually, good bicycle accessories are absolutely timeless. However, the equipment naturally changes.

Even when it comes to bicycle accessories, development does not stand still. The accessories become lighter, more durable, or smarter. For the 2026 season, locks with integrated alarms, bicycle parts from 3D printers, or simply updated designs are announced or already on the shelves.

Why is it worth buying current equipment?

Good equipment significantly improves your life as a cyclist in three main areas:

  • your safety (example: modern bicycle lights)
  • the comfort (e.g., lighter bicycle helmets)
  • the function of your bike (example: a new tire construction)

That's why we have a guide for you here, presenting 10 exciting accessories, innovations, and novelties for 2026 recommended by the BMO team. Everything that makes your life as a cyclist better. Additionally, we introduce you to important equipment for the growing cycling areas of bikepacking/gravel, e-bikes, and for bicycle commuters.

Where are there exciting innovations in 2026?

Three areas are booming especially in 2026:

  1. Bikepacking/Gravel Biking
  2. Everyday transport & commuters, especially cargo solutions
  3. Everything around e-bikes

Therefore, we present the must-haves that every cyclist should have on their radar. The 2026 accessory guide provides you with the most important categories, so you quickly find out what you really need.

Bicycle Accessories: 2026 Must-Haves

↪ Old favorites with new features 😉

The list of indispensable basics remains unchanged:

Bicycle helmet – Head protection is a must!

NEW 💡: rechargeable LED lighting, less weight, improved safety technologies.

Lights and reflectors (according to StVZO) – absolutely indispensable for sports & everyday use

NEW 💡: More... more light and more runtime for more safety. Also brake lights, distance measurement, or daytime running lights.

A good lock – because bicycle thefts are increasing

NEW 💡: Small details in bike locks ensure better functionality, there are mounts, alarms, or GPS trackers.

Bell (also legally required)

NEW 💡: Loud and as invisible as possible is the motto.

Bicycle pump – nothing works without air!

NEW 💡: A real innovation awaits the bike world here, as Schwalbe has introduced a new valve, and of course, there are compatible bicycle pumps to match.

These must-have accessories ensure that you are confident and safe (and legal) on the road. You can borrow the pump from neighbors in an emergency, the rest is non-negotiable.

    Bicycle accessories for commuters

Everyday riders who really ride every day need two things: reliable equipment and weather protection.

    • Waterproof bicycle bags + luggage rack

Bicycle bags are not only practical for bike tours but also serve well on the way to work. A combined bike/shoulder bag is particularly practical here. You can clip these bags to the luggage rack, but they also have a shoulder strap. 💡 There are smaller, practical innovations in bicycle bags, such as firmly anchored loops where the bag can be locked.

    • Bike backpack or messenger bag

On a longer commute with work equipment, a bike backpack simply fits better. If you prefer to put your gear in a shoulder bag, we have a tip for you: There are bicycle bags with an extra strap,  which prevents the bag from slipping off your back. 💡Current designs are available here.

    • All-weather tires or winter tires

If you ride your bike in the rain or winter, tires that can handle these conditions make the difference between "taking the corner" and "flying out of the corner"! 💡 There are improvements in terms of puncture protection and grip.

    • A good bike lock for securing before work

While you're working, your bike stands unattended for many hours. Make it secure!

Especially expensive bikes and e-bikes can be made trackable with a 💡 GPS chip.

    • Waterproof & windproof gloves

Even if you don't need other cycling clothing, it's worth grabbing an accessory in the bike shop: Here you can buy waterproof, windproof cycling gloves, because your hands get cold quickly on the handlebars even at otherwise comfortable temperatures! 💡 New materials offer this comfort with thinner fabric.

    • Good lighting, LED lamps with high visibility and wide light beam

Those who commute by bike have no choice – they ride through twilight, rain, or fog. Make yourself visible!

This is NEW 💡: Battery lighting is now allowed, make sure the lamps have StVZO approval! Additionally, the lamps offer many different additional options like power-saving daytime running lights and much more. It's worth comparing different products here.

Our tip: If you ride through the city, it's especially important that you are well seen from the side ! On the one hand, the reflectors on the wheels are there for this purpose, and you can also make sure when buying a bike lamp that it has a side light strip.

For long tours & bikepacking adventures: Accessories for comfort & safety

Long distances, new routes, and extended gravel tours have different requirements than the daily commute. Those who spend several hours in the saddle quickly realize: Comfort, safety, and good preparation are crucial to whether the tour remains enjoyable or becomes a test of patience.

Ergonomic saddles & grips – Comfort on long distances

On long tours, an optimal seating position is essential. And there are many ways to adjust the seating position, two of which are quick and cost-effective:

    Ergonomic saddles

A suitable saddle relieves bones and tissues, influences the seating position, and thus protects the back. The result: No pressure points, less fatigue, more control, and significantly more riding fun – mile after mile.

NEW 2026 💡Here are initial attempts with custom-made products from the 3D printer – exciting!

    Ergonomic grips

Ergonomically shaped grips take the pressure off wrists and arms, ensuring a good seating position that also relieves shoulders and neck. For gravel bikes, there is an alternative to cramped hands – wrap a handlebar tape that dampens. With a gel core or other padding, it becomes much more comfortable.

Our tip: Make sure your grips do not become slippery when wet. Whether sweat or rain – it's simply no fun if you have to grip harder to maintain control over the handlebars! 💡 Innovative material can offer that, while also improving abrasion resistance.

Luggage solutions for tours – everything with you, without ballast

Frame bags, saddle bags, and panniers turn the bicycle into a true touring vehicle. They pack a lot of weight, offer storage space for clothing, food, or technology, and remain pleasantly unobtrusive. Ideal for day trips as well as multi-day adventures. Lighter waterproof materials are always welcome here!

What's new 💡: Even with bicycle bags, the innovations are more in the details, but they pack a punch! For example, there are tiny valves. Why does a bicycle bag need a valve? It's simple: Bags like saddle bags or handlebar bags are compressed for better stability. With a valve, you can quickly and easily get rid of excess air.

Our pro tip: Less weight is better – your bicycle bags should have as little weight of their own as possible . Modern fabrics and closures make it possible.

Water Bottle & Hydration Bladder – Hydration on the go

On long distances, the rule is: Regular drinking keeps performance and concentration high. An easily accessible water bottle with a bottle holder or a hydration bladder is a small accessory that should not be missing on any tour. If you like to have a bit more water with you, we recommend a hydration bladder. You don't have to carry it in a backpack on your back; it can also be stored in a frame bag or handlebar bag!

💡 Innovations: Here, the material is mainly being experimented with, as it should be permanently tasteless and above all free of harmful substances. For hydration bladders, there are new leak-proof closures or large openings that make cleaning easier.

Bicycle Computers & Navigation – Tracking, Routes & Analysis

For explorers, commuters, and tech fans, bicycle computers and navigation systems are the perfect addition.

💡 Innovations: As with all electronics, the functions are becoming more detailed, faster, and above all more versatile. New here are special training programs, you can network groups, and expect more battery life and clearer displays.

    E-Bike Accessories

There is a lot happening in the world of E-Bikes. Not only are new bikes coming to the market, but the accessories are also increasing.

    • 💡2026 E-Bike Helmets

E-Bikes are faster, which is why the helmets are also safer. More material, more safety technology, and a unique safety standard are the foundations for the current helmets. Nevertheless, the weight is decreasing. We'll introduce one to you in detail right away.

    • 💡E-Bike Parts

There are special parts for E-Bikes; one of them we particularly want to recommend to you: Get your pedelec E-Bike tires. They are perfectly tuned for more weight and higher speed, especially for the corresponding braking maneuvers. They might cost a bit more, but you really shouldn't skimp on this!

Now the exciting part: Which bike accessories should you know for 2026 (or even better: have)?

↪ Recommended by the BMO Team

Find top bicycle accessories without having to compare hundreds of products.

    1. The E-Bike Helmet

Did you know that there is a particularly safe standard for E-Bike helmets? Standard NTA 8776 certifies the helmet that it is safe enough for fast E-Bikes. The Lumos Ultra E-Bike Helmet  meets this standard, and additionally, it comes with everything you can expect from a top bicycle helmet: comfortable fit, battery lighting, good ventilation, a visor.

    2. Woven Handlebar Tape

A little color never hurts. Why not stick some pattern on the handlebars too?

    3. Carbon E-Citybike

The exclusive design language is absolutely unique. But with this 2026 E-bike, the truly interesting point is the equipment. With the Cannondale Flyer performance meets the commute, finally giving people who leave the car at home the luxury they deserve!

Bike Innovation 2026, Carbon Citybike, Comfort Frame, silver-gray

What's new: The innovation is in the details. There are the finest components like an electronic Di2 gearshift, a belt drive, a full carbon frame, and so on. Nothing new? True! But these top technologies were previously reserved for performance bikers. Now commuters and everyday cyclists can enjoy them too!

    4. Reinvented the wheel...…

... Schwalbe, the tire pioneer, did. This directly earned the brand first place in the MTB User Awards test. The tire carcass of the Radial Tire was completely redesigned, resulting in less tension in the tire.

➽ What's new: The tire deforms more precisely and thus adapts perfectly to uneven surfaces. This means more material stays on the ground, with up to 30% more contact area. For you, this means: more cushioning, more grip, and more riding fun.

    5. MTB Shoes for Winter

Finally, dry feet! For more pleasant winter bike tours, Fizik has acquired the GoreTex membrane patent, proven millions of times, making the shoes waterproof and breathable. In the Fizik Artica GTX, there's cozy fleece insulation, a thermal insole, and – very important – a patented sole that works on wet, frozen ground.

New 2026 Bike Accessories: MTB Shoe, beige, high shaft

➽ What's new: Waterproof and a mud-proof sole. Exactly what mountain bikers need in winter!

    6. The new generation helmet camera is here

The compact camera GoPro MAX 360° takes ultra-high-resolution photos and 360° shots, but that's almost standard now. Realistic color gradations and the award-winning image stabilizer make things more exciting.

➽ What's new: The list of innovations is really long, interchangeable lenses, object tracking, and software that independently removes the selfie stick from the picture are just a few of the features. Additionally, 6 microphones for excellent sound, brilliant!

    7. Next Level Bib

How much innovation can be packed into cycling shorts? Quite a lot, obviously. Assos presents Tactica, a cycling short that is perfect for the cooler days of the transitional period. Despite its airy length (or rather: shortness), it insulates and is water-repellent. This keeps the body's core warm and dry while the legs have full freedom of movement with a fresh air guarantee.

Accessory Guide 2026, Racing/Gravel Pants Women, worn, on the bike, back view

➽ What's new: 2 pockets, a completely redesigned pad for more comfort, invisibly siliconized leg cuffs, ergonomically placed straps, and an extremely elastic waistband. We actually don't want to take the bib off anymore.

    8. Bike glasses that are fun

Pit Viper is known to be rather unconventional. And yet somehow highly professional. The glasses from the wacky brand are extremely well thought out, but visually certainly not for the faint-hearted.

    Bike Glasses, Rainbow Color,

➽ What's new: In addition to bike glasses, there are finally also goggles.

    9. Colorful news from Fox Racing for 2026

Fox makes the trail more colorful in the new season with Flexair clothes in new designs. Flexair means: fibers and cut ensure your comfort, but that's already been there. However, the new looks are really exciting.

    Bike Outfit, Accessory Guide 2026

➽ What's new: A few really cool color combos! Fox Flexair jerseys and MTB pants from the special editions Goldstone, Elevated, or Phantom are guaranteed not to be overlooked.

    10. An ultra-light cycling backpack

Does the world need another cycling backpack? This one does! Our favorite feature: With body mapping, the shape of the backpack is adapted to the back when cycling. You hardly notice it!

New in cycling backpacks, lightweight backpack, red

➽ What's new: The backpack comes with an exemplary ventilated back, and the straps are also extremely breathable. And a loop for a rear light. Yet the backpack weighs only a feather-light 160 grams. Hard to believe...

Our recommendations for 2026 are based on trends, innovations, tests, and our everyday experience.

Why is modern cycling equipment important?

↪ Even in 2026, there is new cycling equipment!

An example: The bulb bike light from the 2000s is no longer contemporary. Too heavy, too energy-hungry, and not particularly bright. Today, you ride with lightweight LEDs that use only a fraction of the battery capacity.

And this is true for many bike parts – they are improved, and it is worth replacing them with modern technology at the end of their lifespan. Manufacturers are constantly refining cycling equipment. With many parts, we thought the end of the development line had already been reached, but then the new products surprised us after all.

    Our conclusion:

The road traffic is getting denser, and bicycle accidents are increasing. And the number of e-bikes is also continuously rising, making it significantly faster on bike paths. A lot of equipment is simply there to prevent accidents or to avoid serious injuries. And we think: Every euro invested is doubly worth it!
