1898 marks the birth of Mavic. The brothers Leon and Laurent Vielle founded the company, nickel plating of metals being its main business. Only a short time later, Charles Idoux and Lucien Chanel began to build and sell spare parts for bicycles.

Things to know about Mavic

Probably the biggest innovation in the company's history was the Dura tubular tire rim. In 1934, however, Mavic was preceded by the Italian Longhi. The story goes that Longhi submitted the patent to the hollow chamber rim barely two hours earlier, but gave the French manufacturer a license until 1947. Many other innovations followed by attachments for bicycles such as hubs, rims or complete wheel systems.
