Think of an oval chainring as two chainrings in one. A major advantage of the oval shape is that the shape of the chainring changes your gearing in two key phases of your pedal stroke by utilizing the natural biomechanics of your body. And here's how it works: The area of the chainring with the larger diameter engages the chain at the optimal point during the downstroke, known as the Power Zone. If you were looking at a clock, the Power Zone would be between 1-5 and 7-11. Conversely, the Recovery Zone – back to the dial, between 11-1 and 5-7 – is the weakest part of the pedal stroke, where the oval maximizes your efficiency. An oval 34T chainring behaves like a 36T chainring when you need power, while it behaves like a 32T chainring when climbing.

We have also designed our oval chainrings to allow for a smoother and more efficient pedal rotation. This results in better traction due to a more consistent torque at the rear wheel.
