Take it too far
Performance advantages can be found everywhere, small improvements for big bikes, and yes, a bit of obsession is part of it. But how far is too far? Orbea's goals, their competitors, and their creative mindset drive them to victory time and again. And once you know how sweet success tastes, you want more. You become obsessed with being the best. You feel it in your heart, in your lungs, in your legs - and you recognise it in our bikes. Only by continuously perfecting the smallest details and pushing the limits of what seems possible can they achieve their big goals.
Dynamic Structure
The majority of the torsional forces and lateral loads are absorbed by the lower part of the frame. The head tube, down tube, and chainstays resist the loads and efficiently transfer power to the rear wheel. The stiffer the frame is in this regard, the more power is transferred directly from the legs to the ground, and the more immediate the power transfer feels.
OMX - 830gr (M)
Orbea Monocoque X (OMX) frames rely on an exclusive combination of highly modular and high-strength carbon fibres. Prepreg carbon sheets are cut with lasers to minimise material consumption and overlapping areas. Additionally, the frame is meticulously preformed to achieve optimal compaction with as little carbon as possible. The use of a fully expanded polystyrene (EPS) mould and latex inserts prevents folds and voids.
Comfort
The new Alma features thinner seat stays. Thanks to reduced cross-section and diameter, they provide a graceful support for the seat tube. The top tube, on the other hand, is particularly robust at the front near the head tube to increase torsional stiffness. However, the top tube quickly tapers towards the rear to save material and thus weight.
The damping properties achieved through the carbon layup, as well as the narrow design of the top tube and seat stays, give the Alma a dynamic yet stable ride quality, allowing the bike to glide effortlessly over rough terrain. The effect is subtle but noticeable. At the end of a hard race, such a detail can make the difference between a podium finish and a consolation prize.
Orbea World Cup Geometry
Years of development of top-class cross-country bikes have led to the World Cup geometry of the Alma. The riding position is aggressive, fast, and yet comfortable. Compared to the trail geometry, which sacrifices a bit of precision for endurance, the cross-country geometry is designed for precise handling and maximum power transfer.
OC Cockpit
With the unique design of the OC headset, spacers, and stem, they have given Orbea's cross-country family a completely new, integrated Look. This also includes the optional mount for the bike computer, which is compatible with all major brands via an adapter. The interplay of the OC components completes the high-end claim of their modern cross-country bikes.
Blocklock
The Acros Blocklock 164º headset limits the steering angle and thus prevents damage to the frame. In close collaboration with Acros, they were able to minimise the construction height and integrate the system optimally into the cockpit of the carbon Almas.
