Description
The biggest hurdle in switching to a waxed drivetrain has always been the need to completely remove the factory lubricant from the chain for the wax to adhere properly. Traditional methods involved using two to three different solvents and rinsing steps. They transitioned from non-polar solvents that thin fats and oils to increasingly polar solvents that evaporate quickly and eliminate residues.
In developing the SILCA Chain Stripper we worked from front to back and identified chemicals that remove fats and oils while promoting wax adhesion to metal. The result is an organic cleaner that dissolves and encapsulates fats and oils, allowing them to be easily rinsed off the metal surface. The result is the world's first wax-optimised chain cleaner that not only removes fats and oils but prepares the metal surface for improved adhesion of wax lubricants.
The aggressive “lift and encapsulate” action of the SILCA chain stripper allows for two quick and easy cleaning options.
Option 1:
To wax a new, factory chain with SILCA Secret Blend Hot Melt, simply dip the chain into the Stripper and shake for 30 seconds. Allow the wax to sit for 5–10 minutes and shake again for 30 seconds. Remove the chain from the Stripper , rinse with water, and then place directly into the hot wax. The water evaporates within minutes and the chain is fully waxed. The durability is up to 30% longer than a chain cleaned with traditional methods.

For drop-wise waxing of a new or nearly new chain with SILCA Super Secret, without removing the chain from the bike. Apply 1 drop of SILCA Chain Stripper to each link of the chain while pedalling backwards. Allow the product to sit for 5 minutes. Pedal backwards for 10 crank revolutions to distribute the cleaner, and apply another drop of pro to the link. Allow the product to sit for another 5 minutes. Rinse with clear water while pedalling backwards for at least 10 crank revolutions.
