Description

The chain transmits the power from the chainring to the sprocket of the rear hub. It is exposed to extreme stress and weather influences. Chains stretch at different speeds, depending on the conditions of use, but each must be replaced sooner or later. Timely replacement of the chain is the only way to protect chainrings and sprockets from excessive wear. To achieve the best possible performance of the Shimano HyperDrive System, it is important to use original Shimano HG chains (the latter only for DURA-ACE).

The latest chains of the DURA-ACE, ULTEGRA, and 105 feature a
unique new asymmetrical design. Therefore, the running direction must
be observed when mounting. The specially shaped plates
optimize engagement on the sprocket and lead to even smoother
shifting operations even under load. To save weight, these
chains have perforations in the inner plates and hollow pins
(the latter only for DURA-ACE).
