The Zipp 404 has stood for speed for three decades. The Firecrest Tubeless version for disc brakes is the latest generation. The legacy of the Zipp 404 as a symbol of speed goes back decades, and its future is even better. With a height of 58 mm, the 404 Firecrest Tubeless is ideal for road racing, marathons, time trials, triathlons, and tours in varied terrain. The wheelset's internal width of 23 mm is perfect for running wider, tubeless tires at reduced air pressure. This is an important component of Total System Efficiency (TSE), an approach to increasing speed on constantly changing roads and riding conditions. TSE focuses specifically on overcoming specific speed barriers: aerodynamic drag, gravity, rolling resistance, and vibration losses. The ABLC Sawtooth technology from Zipp uses a complex dimple pattern to improve aero efficiency. The use of hookless (straight) rims by Zipp in the 404 Firecrest is an essential part of "Making You Faster." With Hookless, the transition between tire and rim is more seamless and aerodynamic. The hookless rims from Zipp have a more efficient resin distribution, which means lighter and stronger wheels. An outdoor test commissioned by Zipp has shown the benefits of the Zipp TSE in practice. An 85 kg total system of rider and bike requires 286 watts with the new 404 Firecrest with 25-mm tires to maintain a speed of 40 km/h. That's a saving of 4 watts compared to the previous model 404 Firecrest. At the heart of the 404 Firecrest Tubeless for disc brakes is a versatile and durable hub set, the ZR1 DB developed in Germany.
