With the Freerider Pro model, Five Ten has developed a special shoe for all enduro and all-mountain riders who ride with flat pedals and value special performance. We grabbed the shoe and tested it intensively.

General information about the 5.10 Freerider Pro

With the Freerider Pro, Five Ten placed special emphasis on comfort and wanted to bring a comfortable yet functional shoe for enduro and all-mountain use to the market. The shoe is normally cut, neither too wide nor too narrow. However, you should note that after the acquisition of Five Ten by Adidas there has been a slight change in sizes . So you should definitely take a look at the size chart. The Freerider Pro does without special lacing with straps or Velcro fasteners – normal laces ensure a snug fit.

Our test result for the Freerider Pro

The upper material of the Five Ten flat pedal shoe is made from a quick-drying synthetic material, which is also suitable for wet days on the bike. We were able to try this out intensively over several test days. Even when it rained heavily and the trail also provided us with plenty of water from below, the Freerider Pro remained largely dry. The water beads off the synthetic upper material, so it offers no chance for moisture. However, since there is no tongue over the laces and the shoe is not raised higher in the ankle area, moisture naturally gets through at these points eventually. Overall, however, the shoe presented itself well in wet conditions and could withstand normal showers without any problems. The Freerider Pro is therefore definitely not just a lightweight summer shoe, but also ideally suited for use in autumn and spring.

Visually, the Five Ten Freerider Pro is also a real highlight among MTB shoes (here in the men's version, you can buy other color variants for women).

Another highlight of the shoe is the impact-dampened toe area. Anyone who has ever gotten caught on a rock or root during a descent knows how painful this can be. Five Ten aims to prevent injuries with this additional protection. Even though we didn't have direct stone contact, you can feel while riding that the front area is particularly padded . Kicking against a stone also showed that Five Ten has not made empty promises here, but has actually given the shoe more safety.

In addition, of course, the Five Ten typical Stealth S1 rubber sole , which provides the rider with unbeatable grip on the pedal. Even on worn pedal pins, you can still find sufficient hold and fully concentrate on the descent. It doesn’t matter whether the pedals are wet or dry, because the material of the Five Ten Stealth sole is so soft that the pedal pins can grip into it regardless of the weather.

For optimal and truly noticeably pleasant cushioning the Freerider Pro has been equipped with a EVA midsole and an OrthoLite insole . The high comfort is noticeable as soon as you put on the shoe for the first time and this does not change while riding. Both soles in combination ensure that after long rides there is no feeling of fatigue on the trail or on the pedal. Nevertheless, you have very good contact with the pedal, giving you the perfect mix of riding comfort and grip.

The Five Ten Freerider Pro not only works excellently on the MTB, in our test it also shows what it can do during pushing sections.

Not to forget is the typically good durability of the Five Ten shoes, which also applies to the Freerider Pro. Despite the relatively soft Stealth sole, it does not wear out faster. After several weeks of almost daily use, virtually no signs of wear are visible, which also allows conclusions to be drawn about long-term durability.

The overall craftsmanship of the Freerider Pro is extremely high. The materials make a very robust impression and the seams and adhesive points are also very precisely processed.

Our conclusion on the Five Ten Freerider Pro

The Freerider Pro from Five Ten is an ideal shoe for enduro and all-mountain use, leaving nothing to be desired. Even after several weeks of testing, we could not find any negative aspects of the shoe and can therefore recommend it without reservation.
