For the Best for Men

The Ergon development team has conducted intensive research on men's health. The main cause of discomfort when cycling is the saddle. In men, high pressure on the extremely sensitive perineal area leads, among other things, to numbness. Testicles and penis, on the other hand, rarely cause discomfort as they can avoid the seating pressure. The SM Sport Men ideally relieves the male perineum: With MRI and CT analyses, many prototypes, and test riders, we have ergonomically tailored the saddle precisely to the anatomy and needs of men.

More Freedom for the Legs

The male pelvis is less flexible compared to women. This means: Men sit more upright on the saddle and put more strain on the sit bones. Therefore, the transition area between the saddle rear and saddle nose can be kept narrow (Y-shape). This gives the legs more freedom for pedaling.

Men are Different – We Understand

In contrast to female anatomy, the pubic rami in men are significantly steeper towards each other, and the pubic symphysis is much higher. We have also considered this significant difference between men and women in saddle development.

No Pressure on Sensitive Areas

It's all about the right pressure distribution. To protect the sensitive perineal area, the pressure must be shifted to the sit bones and parts of the pubic arches – this is exactly how the relief surface of the Ergon men's saddles works. Due to the upright male pelvis, we have kept the surface flat and even for the best possible freedom of movement, using the highest quality foams for the padding.

The Right Size

The shape and size of a saddle's seating area must match the sit bone distance of the rider.

Since the pelvic bones taper forward in a V-shape, the saddle must be able to provide a sufficiently large contact area for the sit bones in different seating positions. The saddle widths are chosen so that the usable seating area corresponds to the sit bone distance.

The more forward-leaning a rider sits, the further forward the sit bones touch the saddle.
