Description

After more than two years of development, the Maxxis Assegai is finally here! Greg Minnaar's signature tire is the essence of his 30 years of racing experience and the expertise of Maxxis from over 50 years of tire production.

"My idea was to design a tire from the best Maxxis profiles. I started in the middle with a combination of Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. The reason was that the surface of the DHF rolls well and holds up super on hardpack, in slippery corners, and on wet roots and rocks. The DHR II rolls even better and can brake more aggressively.
Then I set out to create an 'extra' lug that gives you more support and a consistent feel when you lay the bike into the corner on the outer lugs. This brings us to my favorite tire – the HighRoller. The Maxxis engineers and I reshaped the HighRoller side lugs so that they have pretty much the same characteristics as the original. But with the support of this extra lug, you have the ultimate wingman when you charge hard into flat corners.
Ultimately, I adopted the lug height from the Shorty. The lugs are well supported, so the increased profile can bite well into forest floors and dry, dusty soils."

Tubeless tires have many advantages: You can ride with less air pressure. This gives you better traction and reduces rolling resistance. And where there is no tube, the risk of punctures also decreases. Maxxis TR tires are better prepared for mounting with sealant than other "Tubeless Ready" tires. The bead of the TR tires is completely covered with a rubber layer, just like a real UST tubeless tire. This makes tubeless mounting successful on all rims with standard dimensions on the first inflation and with little liquid. Even "normal" Maxxis MTB tires can be mounted tubeless with sealant like tires from other manufacturers, as the carcass fabrics are very dense. However, only the new Maxxis TR models are officially approved for tubeless mounting and guaranteed by Maxxis.

The well-known 3C downhill compound, which many of the best downhillers have trusted for years, is now called 3C MaxxGrip. 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and best damping properties for unparalleled traction on downhills.
