The original sealant, which came onto the market 2.5 years ago, was primarily developed for effective puncture sealing by maximizing the surface of the liquid latex for improved performance. Professional racers appreciated the convenience as they frequently changed tires depending on race conditions and could simply add fresh sealant without having to fill it through the valve. However, we heard two main concerns from casual riders - it dried out quickly when not used, and the composition of the longer carbon fiber strands made injection difficult and problematic, which could lead to a potentially messy installation if handled carelessly.

Finally, the old natural latex formula had to be processed in two steps to remain liquid longer. With our new blend of natural and synthetic latex, this is no longer necessary. Silca Ultimate Sealant is a one-step process that lasts 6 months and most importantly seals punctures on race day.
