More power, better traction, less shifting. The oval chainrings from Wolf Tooth utilize our proprietary PowerTrac design, which offers all the benefits of oval chainrings, but without the strange, uneven pedal stroke. Ride with it once and you'll wonder why you waited so long to try oval.

Think of an oval chainring as two chainrings in one. A major advantage of oval is that the shape of the chainring changes your gearing in two key phases of your pedal stroke by utilizing the natural biomechanics of your body. This is how it works. The area of the chainring with the larger diameter engages the chain optimally during the downstroke, the so-called power zone. If you were to look at a clock, the power zone would be between 1-5 and 7-11. Conversely, the recovery zone – back to the dial, between 11-1 and 5-7 – is the weakest part of the pedal path, where the oval maximizes your efficiency. An oval 34T chainring behaves like a 36T chainring when you need power, while it behaves like a 32T chainring when climbing.

We have also designed our oval chainrings to allow for a smoother and more efficient pedal rotation. This results in better traction due to the more even torque at the rear wheel. With an oval Wolf Tooth chainring, you can utilize more power in the power zone while pedaling more easily in the recovery zone.

These chainrings are for  Shimano GRX cranks. They feature our patented Drop-Stop®  design for best durability, chain retention, and mud clearance. Drop Stop-B works with all other 9-, 10-, 11-, and 12-speed chains, including SRAM Flattop.
