Similar in design to the Rascal, the Raid Amp flat pedal shoe also has an asymmetric shaft with an ankle pad to better protect the inside of the foot facing the crank. The most important distinguishing feature, however, besides the missing Serpen Tie Velcro strap, is the sole of the Raid Amp, which is consistently designed for flat pedals: The SupTraction Rubber Soul FL (FL stands for flat pedal) with EVA midsole features a special pedal zone that extends from the ball of the forefoot to the entire midfoot. In front of and behind that, you'll again find climbing zones like the ones found in the Rascal's sole. Another main focus in the development of the Raid Amp was the shoe's stiffness and flexibility in both longitudinal and transverse direction: Along the longitudinal axis, the Raid Amp has sufficient stiffness to stand stably on the pedal and still has just enough flex for a comfortable rolling behavior when walking. In the transverse direction, the Raid Amp's shank-sole unit allows for tipping/steering movements of the foot on the pedal without the sole "tipping away" on the pedal. ION also sews the upper of the Raid Amp from synthetic leather. Underneath, there is a stable, pre-shaped toe box in the toe area to protect against injuries on contact with the ground. A two-component insole is used as a footbed, which on the one hand cushions the heel area when walking and on the other hand supports the arch of the foot for less fatigue on long descents.
