It's an ideal solution for riders looking to convert their road, gravel, cyclocross or commuter drivetrain bike to achieve the simplicity and lighter weight of a single front chainring, but without sacrificing the gear range of a double chainring. It is also great for riders with double chainring bikes who want a lower gear for extremely steep climbs. This does not affect shifting in the smaller cogs of the cassette, but still allows the front derailleur to work with cassettes as large as 40 teeth.
